Raytheon Missile Systems

I have worked for Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, AZ since 2017.  I have primarily designed and implemented control algorithms for closed-loop servo mechanisms.

Woodward MPC

I had the opportunity to work as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Woodward MPC for four years. While at WMPC, I was responsible for determining the electromechanical properties of the unit. Additionally, I was responsible for communicating with the customer, gathering requirements and understanding the application. Below you will find a few photos along with a brief description of a few projects that I worked on.

JUNO Main Engine Cover and Solar Array Drive

-Geared stepper motors

-Permanent magnets provide detent torque that is amplified through the gear train. This allowed the actuators to hold position when not powered. Motor detent torque negatively affects high speed operation and an appropriate balance was incorporated into the design.

The Juno spacecraft recently reached Jupiter and the first images are being gathered:

 Triumph Engine Cowl Pump

-3 phase AC Induction Motor opens and closes engine cowl doors on 747-8 and 777

-The motor and hydraulic assembly are mounted directly above the engine and are subject to extreme levels of vibration. Weight and envelope requirements were a critical issue.

Halliburton Safety Valve Linear Actuator

-Opens safety blow-off valve

-Fails open (back-drivable when un-powered) allowing valve to slam shut in emergency

-Replaces hydraulic system

-Brushless stepper motor, electromechanical brake and clutch, planetary gearhead and ball screw
